There are reports that container ship capacity will soon be increasing which will hopefully ease the difficulty of booking containers. It may even help reduce current freight rates but there is no guarantee of that.

It has been reported that earlier this month, four steamship lines took delivery of ships larger than 8,000 TEUs (twenty foot container equivalent units). Among the steamship lines receiving large ships recently are NYK, Hapag-Lloyd, and Mediterranean Shipping. A total of 16 vessels over 5,000 TEUs are to be delivered to various steamship lines in April and all are being put into immediate service.

It is estimated that 430,000 TEUs of new containerships will be delivered and put into service in the second quarter of 2010.
